Pine garden

The Lan Ting Xu - a poem written by notable scholar Wang Xizhi, describes the celebration of events along the water during the Shangsi festival in ancient China. Contemplating the beauty of nature, the mountains and the joy of entertainment, Wang Xizhi expressed his feelings on life and death.

The Song Yuan project is inspired by the written artwork of Lan Ting Xu.

We propose to transcend the mere concept of a tea house by creating a cultural landscape which encourages us to both physically and spiritually connect with the space.

The layout of the Song Yuan proposal unfolds along the winding canal, which creates a threshold between the internal and external environment. The outdoor public green space is separated by the water system on the western side. Arranged along the water, activities in the main landscape area are merged with the tea houses to generate internal spaces. The design further aims to explore the potentialities of the relationships between people and water, while also considering the representation and role of Chinese gardens.
