A slice of the Suzhou River

The Tongji original studio has hosted the waterfront renewal of the Suzhou River and the Yangpu Riverside. Based on the experience and sentiment of the project practice, this exhibition, which in response to the issues of functional and special renewal of waterfront environment, aims to show the relationship between waterfront regeneration and urban life.

The exhibition uses a minimalist approach to abstract space and images, focusing on the theme of water- meet-the-shore. The core of the exhibition is a blue light strip that extends over the wall and penetrates the entire surface of the channel. The General Plan of the South bank of Suzhou River in Huangpu district is lay on the background of the light belt. Several important nodes, drawings of which are printed on acrylic panels, are selected to set up the river bank sections.

During the process of “walking along the river”, the visitors can pull out these panels and see the composite growth of the space in the horizontal and vertical direction after the waterfront regeneration; infrastructure, including the municipal pipe network, the tamper-proof wall, the warehousing, etc., will be showed in the sections, which is usually unfamiliar to the visitors. A new superposition way of seeing in front of a purified background will lead to a visual impact and thinking of the waterfront space.
