Centre's Talk

Tang Jie arranges a number of hung metal elliptical plate in such a way that larger ones are placed in the middle and smaller ones on the sides, constituting a double cone in the air.

Whenever a viewer gets close, the sensors will make the largest plate in the center to move, taking other plates with it and hence transferring momentums it holds while specific sounds are made. The movement indicates that Shanghai is emitting signals and energies to the world, presenting an abstract cultural phenomenon in a concrete manner. The interaction between the work and the viewers hint that human is important in transferring energy and momentum.
