Umwelt

Umwelt is a video installation composed of four screens, the main visual part of which is sampled in Dongping National Forest Park in Chongming Island, Shanghai. The artist uses digital technologies to reconstruct the unique natural landscape of the Chongming Island and present an "ultra-reality" of the landscape by translating the "natural" to the "science and technology". At the same time, the support structure of four screens is connected and supported as a metaphor of natural "tree". It supports the continuous exchange and transmission of material and energy in the ecosystem. In this parallel simulation, the works attempt to "copy" and represent the steel forest of industrialized cities in order to explore the authenticity of "nature" in the era of science and technology influenced by human beings at present.
