Toward the West

Bridge on Suzhou Creek.
The installation shows a musician playing an orchestra on a bridge of Shanghai. The band consists of various personages of the same performer at various moments of the city.

Bringing music into the city, YIN Yi interlaces the sounds and images of different times and spaces in Shanghai, building a place that croons. The visitors are invited to engage their bodies and minds with a Sichuan Road Bridge that overflows from an overlapped time-space.

< Toward the west > is a continuation of YIN Yi’s art work and exploration on “sound-momentum picture” in recent years. As one born and growing in Shanghai, he provides his observation, contemplation and evaluation of the city with his art.

YIN Yi invites ZHAO Junyuan to compose an instrumental quartet < Four Times >, the instrumental quartet in < Toward the West >, is composed by Zhao Junyuan who is also musician.
